TGIFF September Storyboek

It’s my week for Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday and my LAST one till December as I’m off to Sewing Summit – Hawaii, Salt Lake City, then Thelma and Louise type road trip with Katy! If you haven’t come via the TGIFF website, there’s a really special song. I’ll give you 30 seconds to run over, press play, and dash back. Ok? Ready? GO!

This was a really quick little quilt, ordered by a colleague for her new granddaughter who is due to appear in October. She loved the Storyboek fabric which I’ve been hoarding and wanting to use for ages.

I was told the nursery is lemon, so worked in the solid lemon borders. I thought a lemon border might blend into the wall too much, so I bound it in the coral polka-dot – I had just enough.
Here’s the back.

I’m not a huge fan of cheater fabric as it’s very rarely printed straight. This was no exception. You can just see my cute little QuokkaQuilts label in the corner.

I trapunto’d the main shapes on the panels, and free motioned around them in Aurifil 40 weight white cotton. I did some background hills in free motion, stopping it where I felt the horizon would be. I decided to stipple the borders and throw a few flowers/butterflies in too.

Really pleased with how this ended up looking and the lady who asked for it loved it too! I hope it brightens up the nursery and gives “scope for imagination” (as Anne of Green Gables would say, with a nod to my Canadian friends) and many happy stories!
