Travel post – WARNING: will induce jealousy…

You probably haven’t noticed that I’ve been quiet for a while before my last post… I was a little busy – just travelling France and Spain, as you do…. Rather than bore you with the details, here’s a snapshot of the highlights of the trip in snapshots…

Highlights of Paris

Four days in Paris alone. A LOT of walking. Not much eating. I must be the only person in the world to lose weight in Paris…

Paris is a highlight in itself, but so was the view from Notre Dame….

The grand Palais Opera Garnier

Inside the Opera Garnier (I was thinking of redecorating – maybe some inspiration here for the bathroom?

Highlights of the Intrepid Tour – Paris to Madrid

Cycling to Villandry from Tours in the Loire Valley, through fields of green wheat and red poppies…

The gardens of Villandry – spectacular. Doesn’t it look like a quilt?!

(Cycling 20km back in a storm - memorable but maybe not a highlight… It took 3 days for my shoes to dry out)

Kayaking on the Dordogne River. Dordogne region

Bordeaux – The ‘Mirror Pool’ and catching an opera for 8 Euro.

The wine bar and the table of French men who got told it was our birthday. <cough – there’s a story there…>

Deciding NOT to climb the bloody mountain in Luchon. That was awesome. (Especially the next day when no one besides me could walk after their 8 hour hike…)

The pinchos (tapas) of San Sebastian and pinchos pub crawls.

The men food of San Sebastian, and dirty-dancing discussing world affairs with the Spanish army in San Sebastian over mojitos red wine a glass of lemonade… <coughing again…> (Mum, this picture below is photo shopped. It never happened. I’m just making things up for my blog. Really. We had dinner and a glass of lemonade and went back to our accommodation and had an early night….><cough cough>

Barcelona with Leona

I like my travel companions to rhyme with where I’m staying, so Leona joined me from London in Barcelona. Highlights:

  1. Dear Laura, I’m so happy to hear that you have had fantastic time! Looks like you have been in most gorgeus places! Really, just today I thought that now I have to ask where you are at the moment! Our life is now very much upsidedown – but that’s an other story. I wish you all the best and lots of unforgetable days and enjoyable moments!

  2. So did any of the men you met in your travels tell you about their vasectomies or have other such inappropriate comments, or did you find them a class above the Perth guys? :)

  3. Awesome post! I, too, find quilt inspiration in European architecture, as well as in a lot of the Quebec architecture. Sigh, makes me want to …. no, I’m over it. I was going to say go BACK to teaching so I can travel once again with my students. Think I’ll keep saving to travel with my husband, on an adult tour perhaps…who did you travel with? Looks like an absolutely amazing tour. Love Leona who was your BFF in Barcelona, LOL. Glad you’re back home safe and sound!
